Guard Columns
The analytical column is the heart of any liquid chromatography system and remains the most problematic component. HPLC columns accumulate retained material, which can dramatically shorten column longevity and cause costly downtime due to premature column failure and troubleshooting efforts. The best way to protect an analytical column from fouling is to install a guard column between the injection valve and the analytical column. The guard column traps particulates, solvent impurities, and retained sample components. The ideal guard column should have no effect on the separation. In order to achieve this, a guard column with a matching bonded phase and optimal hardware configuration should be selected.
Compare Optimize Guard Column Systems
Optimize offers three guard-column systems with different hardware and cartridge-replacement arrangements. Use these distinctions to choose a family to investigate before selecting a phase or product configuration.
OPTI-GUARD
A compact, direct-to-column guard format. Standard and biocompatible options are supplied in packs that include five mated, disposable holders and cartridges, rather than requiring selection of a separate reusable holder.
Explore standard OPTI-GUARD 1 mm Guard Columns or OPTI-GUARD Biocompatible 1 mm Guard Columns.
EXP
A replaceable-cartridge guard system for UHPLC. Guard cartridges are used with compatible EXP holder hardware, and cartridges can be changed by hand without breaking the holder's fluid connections.
Review EXP Guard Column Cartridges for configurations and links to holder options.
OPTI-LYNX
A quick-connect HPLC guard system with replaceable cartridges and compatible direct-connect or in-line guard holders.
